New Year, New Blog!

I wonder how many new blogs begin on the first of January each year? I hadn't intended to sit down and begin writing this today, I've been thinking about it for a while but with extra free time, well here we go! I want to be clear though, it's not a 'New Year's Resolution' although I hope to make it something regular and something to build on.

If I do have a resolution this year, it's to travel more and have new adventures. This is what I typically set myself, usually with particular challenges like 'climb Mont Blanc' or 'cycle to Paris'. I  already have a challenge in the plan for 2019 but more about that another time.

JordanGould.com was originally set up to share the photography from my travels. Photography is a real passion; I enjoy looking at photos almost as much as taking them and processing them. The original attraction was while I was in university. I discovered a love for the outdoors, particularly hiking and climbing. Growing up in a very urban, industrial area, I hadn't appreciated how beautiful parts of the UK were. It inspired me to get a film camera and I've never looked back.

While travelling, I have often kept journals but always for a personal record, to help me to remember the finer details. I've never considered myself a writer but in reality we all are, it's just that some of us are less talented than others. This won't put me off though. I hope this is an opportunity to develop my travel writing as well as inspire more trips and photography.

Guides on travel writing and travel blogging suggest carving out a niche. I'm not certain what mine will be or whether I'll have one at all. I plan to let it evolve naturally and while I hope to write regularly, I'm not yet ready to commit to a particular number of posts per week. This may all change, but I'm excited of where it may lead. Fortunately I have many previous trips and stories to share as well as a number of trips planned for this year. I hope that if you are a regular reader you enjoy my posts as well as any photographs. Here's to 2019 and another year of travel.
